The hotel's entrance is on Newton St and not accessible from Broad St at all. So, keep that in mind. The hotel check-in process was fast and easy and the staff during the entire stay was welcoming and friendly. The room is average sized, and has a fridge, microwave, and Keurig machine. It was very clean. The beds were big and had enough pillows and there were outlets beside the bed. The rooms were decorated with abstract style art and made it look a lot nicer than bare walls. Heat, however, doesn't seem to be controlled by the radiator by the window, but instead by the thermostat on the wall near the far bed instead. This seems to control the radiator. Unlike other hotels where you control it via the radiator system itself. Not sure if this was hotel-wide or not but be aware it could be the case. The bathroom was a bit small, but they had their amenities locked up in dispensers to prevent people putting unknown substances in them which was good to see. The main lobby is pretty big, lots of lounging area to sit and relax and hang out or work. Pool in the back outside but was closed for the season with my visit. There is a lot of hotel parking as well so that wasn't any issue. Not a far walk to campus or downtown so a great central location for both. The only drawback I had was the price. Even for a weeknight with no games or anything big happening, it was quite pricey. I noticed this seems to be the theme though for much of Athens, however, so for town it's one of the best bets as there is no extra hidden parking charges that some other places tack on afterwards...

Check in was quick and the front desk staff was friendly. The room was nice and clean. We had a lot of luggage so I was glad the front desk told us to use the side entrance with the elevator access. Free breakfast was good although some of the cold items were expired. The location is ok. This was our first visit to Athens and we were not familiar with the area. I would have preferred to have been closer to the restaurants and downtown area.

Booked last minute room for 1 night during move-in. High rate but not surprised. Booked a king suite - stayed in room 200. Floor plan is interesting - 2nd floor is actually down 6 steps from lobby. Decent lobby with many tables. Market next to front desk. Room 200 has a living room with sofa, table, chair, kitchenette (sink, coffee maker, fridge) and a separate bedroom. The living room area is quite bare bones. No artwork on walls. Almost felt like a cell. Not comfortable but it was large - roomy. Bedroom was a nice normal hotel room with another coffee maker area. Very small bathroom. Parking lot was easy. Location is great for walking into town. Just a couple of blocks.

The Holiday Inn Express near downtown Athens is a nice, recently updated hotel. The rooms are spacious, well-appointed, and thoughtfully decorated. Cleanliness was not ideal, but certainly not poor. There were areas on the desk that weren't cleaned - two rings left presumably by cold beverages. Additionally, the shower had one corner with peeling caulk and a small amount of visible mildew. Again, I've certainly seen worse. The staff were friendly, but when asked for recommendations for eating, the smart phone became their reference. The included breakfast was sufficient to get the day started, though each day there was a line waiting for the coffee to be replenished. The layout of the hotel is somewhat confusing - almost like portions were added as an afterthought. Finding the pool is an adventure in itself! All-in-all, you can't go wrong with the Holiday Inn Express - but you can also do better.

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights. We were in town for Athfest and to visit a friend who lives just north of Athens and knows the town well. The hotel is in great location. 10 minute walk to downtown, up hill and then down hill coming back (yay). Clean hotel with a good hot breakfast in the morning. Good coffee. Great front desk folks, very helpful and pleasant for out-of-towners like us. We had a standard king room, nice comfy bed and clean modern bathroom. Can't think of anything negative about the hotel. When we visit Athens again, we will definitely stay here.
